Day's Mill Open Day, February 2013
My first day off in 13 days . We decided to go for a drive to Melbourne to visit Tony and Mary, a couple from the Gippsland Gypsies chapter of the Australian Caravan Club. A beautiful warm day. Melbourne sure is spread out. We saw the recent fire that did a lot of damage on the freeway into Melbourne where quite a few houses were very lucky that they were not destroyed with it.
On our way back to Shepparton we decided to go and pay a visit to the Days Mill open afternoon. We went via a back road at Nagambie and ended going over a lake on a very old rickety bridge. The story is that Vic roads wanted to close the bridge however the locals kicked up a big stink so it was left open.
We went in December to see it, but the buildings were closed. Being a open day it was interesting to see the machinery and inside the mill itself. Nothing was working due to the massive restoration that would have to be done to make it work. But there was a lot to see on how things were done back in the 1800's. You could very easily picture and feel the atmosphere they worked under, and with having 13 children, what it could have been like for them.

John has recently done his High Risk Work forklift license for Victoria. Kiwi licenses for fork lift are not accepted in Victoria as they are not High Risk Work Licenses. To get a full license that is accepted around Aussie you have to get one in a state that has the appropriate license and in Vic they cost $485.00 and some other training organisations charge a lot more. It takes 4 days to do the course with a lot of book work involved. Always something new to learn. This entitles him to use a forklift when working anywhere in Aussie.
