60th.birthday

 25 th April 2014

Ross arrived from NZ to celebrate Johns 60th birthday today. He had not been over to visit his Aussie family since he was 13. John took him around to visit his cousin in Millaa Millaa .

A visit to the Herberton Historical Village and spending half a day looking at how the area was in the early 19th century . John's fathers brother had his mining hut displayed there as it was when he lived in it at Herberton. It was good to get a photo of john sitting in his uncles chairs . It would of been very cold living in the hut during the winter months.

John celebrated his 60th birthday with family on the Sunday with morning tea. On his actually birthday date 29th April , John, Ross and myself went to the Tolga pub for tea. Unbeknown to John I had invited friends we met when we managed the Atherton Caravan  Holiday Park, Jimilie and Greg Ryder.
Jimilie had arranged for a large balloon to be put at our table and a lovely chocolate cake for desert. Thanks Jimilie and Greg for help making it a wonderful evening .

I had a to laugh when Ross arrived he told me that his bag only weighed 8.5 kilo . Before Ross came over his I asked him whether he was bringing just a back pack or suitcase. He replied a suitcase . I was very grateful for this . Ross said to me full it up , I sure did not need to be told a second time . Ross kindly took back to NZ for us a total of 40 kilos of folk art books and painted items I had done . Thanks Ross .

Since Ross has gone back to NZ , John has been very busy working on 2 farms . Glen and John have been busy planting rye grass, turnips and chikory. Ross chapman contacted John re doing some milking for a few days due to a milker having time off . Early morning starts again , up at 4.30 am to start milking at 5.10 . Once the morning milking was completed it was time for breakfast then start planting on the Glen and Anne's farm. Come 3.00 pm back to milking the evening shift. This was the pattern for the next 10 days for john . Once that finished a friend of Johns, Paul Phoned up asking john to milk for a week morning and night while he and Mary went away. John got one sleep in then was back to milking.

The weather has not been good to us in the last 6 weeks . Rain and more rain , the temperature has also dropped a few degrees. I think john and I both have become acclimatised to the weather in Queensland and are now finding it cool when it drops to 12 - 15. Degs .

We picked up our tickets for England and Europe today, 19th June now we are starting to get excited , fly out on the 25th June 2014.
We now have sorted out how to post our blog using the IPad we got for our trip instead of carry a lap top.
