3rd May 2011,

Mel and Peter arrived at 9.30 from England . They had a great flight over. John held up a sign saying
KIWIKOALA TOURS for them.

Welcoming our friends   Mel and Peter Machin coming through the doors  at Christchurch Airport.

Once we collected Peter and Mel. Off we went with cousin Margaret driving (as I'm sure we would have got lost) to collect the Apollo Motorhome that Pete and Mel had hired.
Once this was all sorted out and a coffee was had at the Hub we decided to go and stay a night at Springfeild about a hour out of Chch. $7.00 a night per van a extra $5.00 for power if you  needed it.

A lovely catch up evening was had. The morning brought low cloud and drizzel.

Pete and Mel decided to go back and exchange the van they had for a bigger one with a toilet and shower on board. This we did.

From picking the van up we deceided to go to Geraldine for the night. A lovely country town. Mel saw the largest Jeresy made in a wool store here.

As we went into the camp ground at Geraldine we got a flat tyre. The AA came out the following morning and removed the tyre and went away to repair it. Whilst this was happening Mel and Pete discovered a gas leak in their van and no hot water for a shower. After ringing Apollo van's in chch the boys were told to take it to Timaru rv's . This was done taking about 3 hours in total. The rv people said that they could not find a gas leak but found that the battery charger needed replacing .
A good time to catch up with the chores i.e. washing clothes etc.

Within in a hour of John and Pete getting back from Timaru. Mel found that the van still smelt of gas.
Another phone call to Apollo. This time the boys were asked to take it back to Timaru to be checked out again first thing in the morning. This time they found a gas leek under the kitchen hobs. Pity it was not found the first time.

From here we went to Pleasant Point to view the railway trains. Not working over the winter months. Never mind a good cuppa and lunch was had.
Decided to go close to Twizel and stay at Lake Pukaki  (ref 1893  NZMCA travel directory) We parked up off the main road down close to the lake edge very private and peaceful. This is a free park over.
